According to a recent report by the U.S. Department of Labor, the unemployment remained at 4.1%, a 17-year low. The economy also added 228,000 jobs. Job gains occurred in professional and business services, manufacturing, and health care.
Here are some of the highlights for the month of November.
BROAD OVERVIEW
- Unemployment remained at 4.1%
- Wages increased by $0.05 to $26.55
- Workweek hours increased by 0.1 hour to 34.5 hours
UNEMPLOYMENT BY DEMOGRAPHICS
- Unemployment for adult men was 3.7%
- Unemployment for adult women was 3.7%
- Unemployment was 3.0% for Asians, 7.3% for Blacks, 4.7% for Hispanics, and 3.6% for Whites.
UNEMPLOYMENT BY EDUCATION
- Unemployment for persons without a high school diploma was 5.2%
- Unemployment for persons with a high school diploma was 4.3%
- Unemployment for persons with a bachelor’s degree or higher was 2.1%
EMPLOYMENT BY INDUSTRY
- Education and health services increased by 0.2%
- Professional and business services increased by 0.2%
- Manufacturing increased by 0.2%
- Information decreased by 0.1%
