3 Ways to Draw More Female Applicants

According to U.S. News and World Report, the percentage of women in the workplace has gone from 27 percent in 1979, up to 41 percent in 2014. A jump of 14 percent in less than 40 years means that employers can expect more women to be looking for jobs in the coming years and that means those job ads will need to be more effective at attracting female applicants.

Women are getting more degrees than ever and taking on more management positions. As you put your next job ad together, just remember to take a little extra time to focus on your female audience to make sure you are taking full advantage of the workforce that is available.

Focus On Results As Much As Qualifications

According to CSOOnline.com, female applicants are just as interested in the types of results that are expected of them as they in the background your company is looking for. When you write your next job ad, be sure to include the types of results you are looking for from candidates to increase the number of female responses. For instance, if your company is looking to hire a sales manager to help open up new markets, then put that in the ad to help be more specific about what you are looking for.

Ask Your Current Female Employees

SocialTalent.Co suggests that the best way to determine what kind of information women want to see in job ads is to ask the women who currently work for your company. You may think that all applicants are looking for a fun working environment, but your female employees might point out that women prefer a workplace that is a little more focused on results and less focused on party time.

Include Equal Opportunity Statements

According to NYMag.com, forgetting to include an equal opportunity statement in your job ad can make your ad seem biased towards men. Some employers like to write fun job ads that may include things like a great workout room or Friday happy hours with the rest of the staff. But these tend to attract more male than female applicants. When you monitor the type of language you use in your ads and include an equal opportunity statement, you are significantly increasing your chances of getting female applicants.

Women are making up a large percentage of the workforce and that means that your male-biased job ads are preventing you from finding the best possible candidates. Since you want your company to succeed by having the best talent on staff, you want to be sure to word your ads to appeal to male and female applicants equally. It can take some trial and error, but you will find that your company is much better off when you finally find the right formula for writing ads that will attract female applicants.
